The brains of babies reach half the adult size at 3 months.
The cerebral development of babies is done at high speed during the first three months after birth.
Babies grow faster than we think. At three months, their brains are already half the size of the adult brain. Californian researchers have successfully tracked the brain development of babies through the performance of brain imaging. They followed 87 infants from birth to three months of age. This technique, which changes from those used until then, namely the use of a meter to measure the circumference of the skull. It has reported a remarkable brain evolution during this period. It is indeed during the first three months that the brain experiences an accelerated development: the growth rate is 1% per day the first 90 days, before slowing down to 0.4% thereafter.
Among the interesting observations: the growth of the brains of boys would be faster than that of girls. The cerebellum, an important area in motor control, is more concerned by this rapid development since it doubles its growth in the first 90 days. In contrast, the hippocampus, the region associated with memory, evolves at a slower rate.
The study appeared in the journal JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Neurology.
When is the meal useful for baby?
The multiplication of the baby's cells, in other words, its growth, requires frequent inputs of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Therefore, in the first months of baby's life, we can not talk about meals, but rather food, which are at a rate of 5 to 7 per twenty-four hours. It is incumbent here, above all else, to respond to the hunger of a baby who has only a small capacity for energy autonomy. When around 6 to 8 months, the baby will have gained a longer energy autonomy and will sit, the preparation of the meal will arouse his curiosity. And little by little, meals will punctuate his day and establish his good habits.
A rythm to find
Until the age of 2 to 3 years, we will always adjust meal times and their frequency to the smallest.
His needs will almost always be the following: breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner with possibly a sweet infusion or bottle of milk before bedtime.
Preparing a table with meals is very useful for setting a frame. After all, you are a young, uneducated parent. From the youngest age of a baby, you thus invest this field of his education. Reflecting and setting up baby meals from the start will make it easier for you as the child grows up.
